  • FACT CHECK: Was Adam Schiff Convicted Of Treason? A post shared on Facebook claims Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff has been convicted of treason. Verdict: False There is no evidence Schiff has been convicted of treason. The claim appears to stem from a website that says it publishes “humor, parody, and satire.” Fact Check: Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has previously been the subject of misinformation, including a post in June that baselessly claimed he had been arrested by the military. Now, a July 4 post claims the congressman was convicted of treason. There is, however, no record of Schiff being charged or convicted of treason. Check Your Fact searched press releases published by the Department of Justice as well as the Department of Defense, but found no indication of Schiff being arrested, charged or convicted. If Schiff, a prominent member of Congress and the Democratic Party, had been convicted of treason, it would presumably be reported by credible news outlets, yet no such reporting could be found. “This has been established as fake,” a Defense Department duty press officer said in an email to Check Your Fact. (RELATED: Image Claims Adam Schiff Visited Jeffrey Epstein’s Island 78 Times) The claim appears to stem from a July 4 article published by Real Raw News bearing the headline: “Adam Schiff Convicted of Treason.” Real Raw News contains a disclaimer on its website reading, “This website contains humor, parody, and satire,” but some social media users have posted the claim without such a warning, seemingly believing the erroneous claim to be true. This isn’t the first time misinformation has stemmed from an article on Real Raw News. Check Your Fact recently debunked baseless claims that former Attorney General William Barr and former President Bill Clinton were convicted of treason.
