  • Last Updated on February 9, 2025 by Dr Priyamvada Quick Take A social media post claims that MONk 2 SKINo ointment can permanently cure fungal infections. We did the fact check and termed this claim as mostly false. The Claim We came across an Instagram post promoting an ointment for skin fungal infections. According to the post, “MONk 2 SKINo ointment permanently cures fungal infections, ringworm, itching, eczema, and other skin conditions, preventing recurrence unless the infection is related to the blood.” Fact Check Does MONk 2 SKINo ointment have scientific evidence to support its claim? No, there is no clinical evidence proving that MONk 2 SKINo provides a permanent cure for fungal infections. The product’s website does not mention any clinical trials or provide a full ingredient list. - The only available ingredient information (sourced from an Amazon seller) includes coconut oil, purified borax (Shudha Tankan Khar), Indian gooseberry (Amla), sulphur (Gandhak), and an unspecified ingredient called “Jaily.” The full list of ingredients remains undisclosed. - Products vary in formulation, and lack of transparency raises concerns about quality, effectiveness, and safety. - Since no clinical trials, dermatological studies, or peer-reviewed research validate the claim, it is misleading to suggest that MONk 2 SKINo ointment offers a permanent cure. Similarly, another post claims that spraying a mixture of methi, clove, kalonji, and onion on the scalp will cure dandruff for 100 years. However, this lacks strong scientific evidence. Can Ayurvedic treatments help with fungal infections? Yes, some Ayurvedic treatments may help in managing fungal infections. A 2021 case study documented the successful treatment of a 62-year-old man with Tinea corporis (ringworm) using Ayurvedic medicines. After 42 days of consistent treatment, his symptoms improved significantly, and there was no recurrence after a one-month follow-up. However, this does not mean that all Ayurvedic treatments provide permanent solutions. The effectiveness of such treatments depends on: The type and severity of the infection - The individual’s immune response - The quality and purity of the Ayurvedic formulation - Additionally, fungal infections are known to recur, especially if the underlying cause (such as excessive sweating, diabetes, or a weakened immune system) is not addressed. We reached out to Dr Muskan Thakur, BAMS, Ayurveda Consultant from Indore, for her expert take on Ayurvedic formulations for skin fungal infections. She says, “In my experience, Ayurveda offers a holistic approach to managing fungal infections. According to Ayurveda, skin disorders are caused by vitiated doshas, particularly Pitta, in the blood. Therefore, the focus is on balancing doshas and purifying the blood through herbs and various Panchakarma procedures like Virechan (purgation), Vaman (medicated emesis), and Raktamokshan (bloodletting).” Dr Thakur adds, “We often use a combination of herbal remedies, dietary guidance, and lifestyle adjustments to support the body’s natural healing processes. I have seen patients find relief and improved skin health when following these time-tested methods. However, it’s important to understand that while these treatments can alleviate symptoms and reduce the risk of recurrence, they are part of a broader wellness approach rather than a magic bullet.” She continues, “Maintaining good hygiene, eating a balanced diet, and managing stress also play vital roles in keeping fungal infections at bay. Ultimately, Ayurveda teaches us that every individual is unique, so tailoring treatment to one’s specific needs is essential for the best results. A single ointment alone cannot guarantee a cure for fungal infections.” We also spoke with Dr Mohit Sandhu, BAMS, Shri Shubhda Ayurveda Wellness Clinic, Gurugram, for his insights on the Ayurvedic approach to treating fungal infections. He explains, “Ayurveda offers a well-rounded approach to managing fungal skin infections. Traditional Ayurvedic texts describe time-tested herbal formulations that help restore skin balance and fight infections naturally. Some classical Ayurvedic medicines, such as those containing neem, turmeric, and gandhak (sulphur), have antifungal properties and can be effective when used correctly. However, not all Ayurvedic products on the market meet these high standards. Many are poorly formulated or make exaggerated claims. The key is to choose authentic, well-researched Ayurvedic treatments and combine them with good hygiene and a balanced lifestyle for the best results.” On a related note, there are claims that the ash of neem and guava leaves can treat finger fungal infections at home, in just one night. However this is factually inaccurate. Is MONk 2 SKINo a safe and reliable treatment? Without full ingredient disclosure and clinical trials, the safety and effectiveness of MONk 2 SKINo remain uncertain. The product claims to have no side effects, which is misleading because: Any topical treatment can cause irritation, allergies, or adverse reactions, depending on an individual’s skin sensitivity. It also varies with age. - The lack of clinical testing means potential risks are unknown. - Different fungal infections require different treatments, and a single ointment may not work for all cases. - It is always best to consult a dermatologist before using any topical treatment, especially one that lacks proper scientific validation. THIP Media Take The claim that MONk 2 SKINo ointment can permanently cure fungal infections is mostly false. While some Ayurvedic treatments may help manage symptoms, no proof exists that this product prevents recurrence permanently. Users should be cautious of unverified medical claims and avoid relying on untested remedies for recurring infections. Consulting a qualified medical professional remains the safest approach.
