Monday’s cloudburst at Dharamshala led to heavy damage, causing flash floods that swept away cars. But this particular video is from Atami in Japan. On July 3, heavy rainfall here resulted in a landslide that swept away several houses and vehicles, killing two people and leaving several missing.
Monday’s cloudburst at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh left a trail of destruction, with flash floods sweeping away cars and damaging buildings. Several pictures and videos of the calamity are also circulating on social media.
One particularly scary video of a massive landslide engulfing everything on its way is being shared as visuals from Dharamshala.

India Today Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that this particular video is from Atami in Japan. On July 3, heavy rainfall here resulted in a landslide that swept away several houses and vehicles, killing two people and leaving several missing.

AFWA investigation
Many social media users raised doubts about the authenticity of the viral claim. Some said the video was from Japan.
Taking this as a cue, we searched the Internet with the help of keywords, and found that the video is from July 3. Several mainstream news websites also published the video, claiming that the frightening visuals were captured during a landslide at Atami city in Japan.

According to these reports, heavy rainfall caused the landslide in the city of Atami in Shizuoka prefecture on July 3. At least two people were killed and several went missing after the landslide, which was caught on camera by citizens.
Hence, it is clear that though Dharamshala witnessed flash floods and landslides on July 12, the viral video is from Japan.
