| - In late November and early December 2024, social media users shared a quote about the futility of guilt and anxiety on platforms such as X (archived), Instagram (archived) and Facebook (archived), attributing the message to actor Sylvester Stallone.
(Facebook)
The quote read in full:
No matter how much you torment yourself with guilt, the past won't change. And no matter how much you consume yourself with anxiety, the future won't be altered. So don't ruin your present; live in the now with determination and courage.
However, there was no demonstrable evidence that Stallone ever said or wrote these words. A Google search for the quote did not find any primary sources — such as a video, published interview transcript or social media post from an account officially affiliated with Stallone — proving the statement originated from the actor.
Instead, the results consisted of social media posts made between late November and early December 2024 by accounts with no apparent connection to Stallone. Some posts featuring (archived) the quote did not attribute (archived) it to any individual.
Snopes has reached out to Stallone to ask for a comment on the quote and will update this story if or when we receive a response.
However, because we found no evidence connecting the quote to Stallone, we have rated the claim that he originated the comment as unfounded.
Snopes has previously investigated other claims about Stallone, including whether he said his mother once told him: "The only reason you're here is because the hanger didn't work."
