  • FACT CHECK: Social Media Post In Which Greenland Premier Appears To Troll Trump Is Satirical A post shared on X claims Greenland Premier Mute B. Egede purportedly said, “If Trump can’t handle one polar vortex, he can’t handle Greenland.” Brilliant trolling of @realDonaldTrump attributed to Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede “If Trump can’t handle one polar vortex, he can’t handle Greenland.” 🐻❄️ #TrumpInauguration2025 He made a statement regarding Donald Trump’s interest in Greenland, which included a… https://t.co/SiH0WwaFq3 pic.twitter.com/H2sjQSouLI — Marios Karatzias (@MariosKaratzias) January 19, 2025 Verdict: False The claim is false and originally stems from a Jan. 17 post shared on X by the satire account @HalfwayPost. Fact Check: Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States at the Capitol Rotunda, according to CNN. Prior to the inauguration, Trump expressed a desire to buy Greenland, Axios reported. The X post, which has received over 1,000 views as of writing, claims Egede purportedly said, “If Trump can’t handle one polar vortex, he can’t handle Greenland.” “Brilliant trolling of @realDonaldTrump attributed to Greenland’s Prime Minister Mute Egede. ‘If Trump can’t handle one polar vortex, he can’t handle Greenland,'” the post reads in part. The post follows a Jan. 17 CNN report that Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration ceremony would be moved indoors due to “dangerously cold temperatures” in Washington, D.C. The claim is false and originally stems from a Jan. 17 post shared on X by the satire account @HalfwayPost. “BREAKING: After Donald Trump announced he was giving his inauguration speech indoors on account of the cold weather, the chancellor of Greenland taunted him on social media saying, ‘If Trump can’t handle one polar vortex, he can’t handle Greenland,'” the original post, which has garnered over 400,000 views, reads. The account that shared the post describes itself as sharing “Halfway true comedy and satire” via its bio. Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Jan. 20, Snopes debunked the claim, tracing its origin to the same satire account. (RELATED: Did Donald Trump Not Place His Hand On His Heart During Carter’s Funeral?) In addition, Trump does not appear to have publicly referenced the claim on his personal or government X accounts. The website for the Nordic Cooperation, of which Egede appears to be a member, also does not reference the claim. Check Your Fact has contacted Egede’s office for comment.
