The narrative in Hindi goes as “Jodhpur Various parts of the country have been getting heavy rainfall and several cities have faced flood like situation. Social media is also flooded with the videos of water gushing into homes and streets. Some of these videos are recent, meanwhile several old videos belonging to other places are being shared with different captions. Such a video of man being swept away in flood water in street is in circulation with the claim that it shows recent flooding in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The person can be seen rescued by the local people later in the video. The narrative in Hindi goes as "Jodhpur में भयंकर बारिश बनी आफत, पानी के तेज बहाव में बहे लोग!" when translated claims "Heavy rains in Jodhpur, people flowing in high flow of water!" Fact check: The claim that the viral video is from Jodhpur and is recent is FALSE. When keyframes extracted from the video, using Invid tool, are searched using Google Reverse image search, we found videos published by several media websites. Here are the links to the videos shared by TV9 Bharatvarsh and CNN-News18 in August 2020. The description on the video published by TV9 Bharatvarsh states "Jaipur में भारी बारिश.. सड़कों पर सैलाब.. पानी के बहाव में बहे लोग" The description on CNN-News 18's video states "Heavy rains have left Jaipur paralaysed with flood- like situation in several areas. A man was swept away and locals rushed to his rescue as street was flooded with water. The IMD has predicted heavy rain over the next 48 hours." According to an article in Indianexpress.com, Low-lying areas were severely inundated after three hours of continuous rains. Shocking videos showed scores of vehicles submerged. In some places, strong water currents made it difficult for people to remain on their feet. Water filled government offices, hospitals and buses. It washed away many shanties in low-lying areas. So, the viral video is NOT from the recent floods in Jodhpur, it is from August 2020 and shows floods in the city of Jaipur. The claim is FALSE.
