This video is from December 30, 2022, and shows the test launch of a rocket in South Korea.
In the aftermath of three unidentified flying objects and a Chinese “spy” balloon being shot down by the US Air force in February, a similar incident was also allegedly witnessed in Poland. A video that’s been widely shared online shows a trail of white and red smoke snaking behind a bright white light in the night sky.
“Now in Poland... the Air Force shot down a ‘UFO’,” read one such tweet. Archives of such posts can be seen here, here, and here.
AFWA found that the video shows the test launch of a rocket in South Korea.

A reverse search of the video's keyframes led us to the same clip uploaded to a Korean YouTube channel on December 30, 2022. The title of the video in Korean read: “Unidentified aircraft found in the skies across the country.”
A further search with relevant keywords led us to similar videos shared by several people from South Korea on December 30 and 31, 2022. While some claimed the video showed a UFO, others said it was a South Korean missile test.
We also found similar videos and images in multiple media reports from December 2022. As per these reports, these videos showed a solid-fueled rocket that was test-fired by South Korea on December 30, 2022.
According to South Korea’s Defense Ministry, the rocket launch was part of its efforts to build a space-based surveillance capability. The general public was not notified about the launch, and this reportedly triggered a UFO scare.
We compared the viral video with one of the photos from the launch shared by the Associated Press. The pattern of the white and red trail seen in the viral video is almost the same as that in the photo. A comparison of the two can be seen below.
We were not able to independently verify the exact location of the viral video. According to media reports from South Korea, the rocket was spotted in the night sky in several areas including Seoul and parts of the Gangwon, Gyeonggi, and South Chungcheong provinces.
Thus, it’s clear that this video does not show a UFO being shot down in Poland.
