  • FACT CHECK: Post Falsely Claims Tweets Are Now Called ‘Xeets’ A post shared on Facebook purports tweets will now be called “Xeets” following Twitter’s rebrand to X. Verdict: False X’s Help Center page still reads, “How to Tweet.” There is no evidence supporting the claim. Fact Check: Twitter rebranded to “X” during the weekend of July 23, according to CBS News. The rebrand could get the platform’s CEO Elon Musk in trouble as other companies, including Microsoft and Meta, own trademarks for “X,” CNBC reported. “A ‘Tweet’ is now officially referred to as a ‘Xeet,’ according to X’s new help center page. Xelon is xnuts,” the Facebook post’s caption reads. The post has received over 300 reactions as of writing. The claim is false, however. X’s Help Center page still reads, “How To Tweet.” In fact, the Help Center page still refers to the platform as Twitter and bears Twitter’s former bird logo. In addition, the page mentions the platform’s subscription-based service, Twitter Blue. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports indicating tweets would now be called “Xeets” following Twitter’s rebranding to X. In addition, Musk has not publicly mentioned anything about tweets being called “Xeets” going forward via his X handle. (RELATED: No, Mark Zuckerberg Did Not Accuse Elon Musk Of Having An Affair With Sergey Brin’s Wife) Although there is no evidence supporting the claim, Musk may be responsible for the false information circulating on social media. Musk responded that tweets are now called “x’s” in response to another user’s question. “So now that Twitter has been rebranded to 𝕏, what are tweets called now?” Sawyer Merritt, co-founder of Twin Birch USA, wrote in a Jul. 24 post. “X’s,” Musk said. x’s — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 24, 2023 The claim suggesting tweets are now called “Xeets” also made the rounds on X, earning 13.5 million views. Check Your Fact has contacted an X spokesperson for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
