  • As the election results are out, several claims have been surfacing daily alleging mismatches or miscalculations. One such claim appeared on the 2024 Lok Sabha election results stating that BJP won 30 seats with a margin of less than 500 votes and 100 seats with less than 1000, suggesting a foul play in the elction process. This is really alarming!! BJP has won 30 seats with a margin of less than 500. Won more than 100 seats with a margin of less than 1000. These seats should be analysed Meaning this figure could have possibly been 240-130 = 110 — Hitendra Pithadiya 🇮🇳 (@HitenPithadiya) June 6, 2024 Posted on X on June 6, 2024, two days after the results for Lok Sabha seats were announced by the chairman of the SC department of Congress Gujarat, Hitendra Pithadiya (@HitenPithadiya), the caption reads:”This is really alarming!! BJP has won 30 seats with a margin of less than 500. Won more than 100 seats with a margin of less than 1000. These seats should be analysed. Meaning this figure could have possibly been 240-130 = 110.” It was also shared by East Bangalore Congress Sevadal in Hindi below. What would you call this scam? BJP won 30 seats with a margin of less than 500. FACT-CHECK Digiteye India received a request to fact-check the claim and we quickly checked on the website of the Election Commission of India but found no such seat where the BJP candidate won with a margin of less than 1,000 or 500 votes. In fact, the least a BJP candidate got was in Jajpur, Odisha where Rabindra Narayan Behera defeated BJD’s Sarmistha Sethi by 1,587 votes. Hence, the claim is false. Claim: BJP won 30 seats with a margin of less than 500 votes and 100 seats with less than 1,000 votes in 2024 elections. Conclusion: The claim is false. The lowest margin a BJP candidate got in 2024 elections was 1,587 votes in the Jajpur Lok Sabha constituency in Odisha.
