| - A viral post claims that during a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raid on former NDTV director and promoter Prannoy Roy, it was "uncovered" that his real name allegedly was 'Parvez Raja' and he was born in Karachi, Pakistan.
It further claims that NDTV’s full form is “Nawajud Din Taufiq Venture”, which is allegedly named after his father.
The claim adds that his wife's alleged real name is 'Rahila'.
How did we find out the truth?: We conducted a relevant keyword search on Google and found no credible reports supporting this claim that a CBI raid on NDTV owner Roy revealed his real name, Karachi origins, or any other alleged secrets.
We also came across articles from 6 June 2017 stating that the CBI raided the offices and Roy's home over allegations of defrauding ICICI Bank.
These raids were conducted at four locations in Delhi and Dehradun.
But none of these reports mentioned Roy's alleged Muslim identity, as claimed.
Next, we checked the CBI’s official website and found a press release published on 6 June 2017, which mentioned the searches at Roy’s residence.
But it did not mention any of the claims made in the viral post - which included Roy’s real identity, Karachi origins, or other alleged "secrets".
Plus, Roy's official X (formerly Twitter) account also specifies his name as 'Prannoy Roy' and not 'Parvez Raja'.
Moreover, the CBI filed a closure report on 3 October in the alleged cheating case against Roy.
The report stated that it could not find legally tenable evidence regarding the Rs 48 crore loss incurred by ICICI Bank in settling a loan in 2009.
Conclusion: Viral posts claiming that Prannoy Roy's real identity is a Muslim and has Karachi origins are fake.
