New Delhi (Vishvas News): A post about Rishi Sunak is being widely shared on social media with the claim that Indian-origin Rishi Sunak has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Britain. Many social media users are congratulating Rishi Sunak on becoming the new PM of Britain by sharing his picture.
The viral claim turned out to be false in the investigation of Vishvas News. The process of choosing a new UK prime minister is underway and the new name will be announced in September. So far, Boris Johnson is holding the post of Prime Minister of Britain till now. Rishi Sunak had not been elected as the new Prime Minister of Britain till the time of writing the report.

Sharing the viral post, Facebook user Rajshree Yadav Fan’s wrote in the caption, “Heartiest congratulations to an Indian Rishi Sunak on becoming the Prime Minister of Britain. Britain, ruled over India for 250 years, today its Prime Minister has become an Indian. It is a matter of pride for every Indian.” #Rishi_Sunak

Investigation:
To know the truth of the viral claim, we searched on Google through several keywords. We found a report related to the claim on ABP news. It was published on 19th July 2022. According to the report, Rishi Sunak got 115 votes in the third round of voting held on Monday. After which he came to the fore in the race of Prime Minister.
Many other user websites have also published this news. During the search, we did not get any credible media report, in which it should be mentioned that Rishi Sunak has become the Prime Minister of Britain.
Taking the investigation ahead, we started scanning the website of the Conservative Party. According to the website, the leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party and the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom will be announced on 5 September. Right now the process of electing the leader is going on.
Vishvas News started scanning Rishi Sunak’s social media accounts. We found a tweet posted on 18 July 2022 on the official Twitter account of Rishi Sunak. In which he has shared a video and thanked all the people who voted for him in the third round. According to the information given on the official Twitter of Boris Johnson, he has resigned from the post of Prime Minister of Britain. However, he is still working as the Prime Minister of Britain.
For more information, we got in touch with Neelu Ranjan, a senior journalist working in the National Bureau of Dainik Jagran and an expert on international issues. He told us that the viral claim is false. The name of the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has not been announced. The voting process is going on right now.
In the last step of investigation, we did a background check of Rajshree Yadav Fan’s page who shared the post. We found that the user has 35,214 followers on Facebook. This page has been active on Facebook since 13 June 2022.
Conclusion: In the investigation of Vishvas News, the viral claim of Rishi Sunak being elected as the new Prime Minister of Britain turned out to be false. The process of choosing a new UK prime minister is underway and the new name will be announced in September. Boris Johnson will remain the caretaker PM of Britain until a new prime minister is elected.
