  • Fact Check: This dangerous leopard attack video is not from Dehradun but Jorhat in Assam Many shared the video of a leopard attacking a car, claiming it happened in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The incident happened in Assam's Jorhat. Many people were injured by the same leopard before it was caught by the authorities. Recently, a leopard and its cubs were spotted at the Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. As per news reports, after that, the area was sealed off and visitors' entry was stopped. Authorities also reportedly issued strict orders for residents. Meanwhile, a video allegedly showing the same leopard has been shared widely. In the video, a leopard can be seen jumping onto a moving car. The animal then ran away and disappeared. A person shared it on Facebook and wrote, "FRI Dehradun. Plz be careful. Leopard's frequent attack in FRI. FRI sealed for 15 days.” Many others shared the same video and claimed it happened in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The archived version of the video can be seen here. News outlets like Jagran and Bharat 24 also reported the same. The archived versions of such reports can be seen here and here. AFWA's investigation, however, found that the video was not from Dehradun. The incident took place at the Lahdoigarh police post in the Jorhat district of Assam. AFWA PROBE A reverse search of keyframes from the viral clip led us to the various news reports containing the same video. On December 28, 2022, Zee News published the news with a headline, "The dreaded 'leopard' attacked a moving vehicle in Assam's Jorhat.” Per the report, a leopard attacked a moving car in Assam's Jorhat. On December 27, the same video has been uploaded to the official YouTube channels of CNN-News18 and India Today with the same claim. Other leading news outlets like the Economic Times , NDTV , FirstPost, Mirror Now also reported the same. Purna Bikash Bora, India Today's correspondent from Jorhat, confirmed the same and added that the leopard injured three members of a family in a residential area. Moushumi Bora, Parismita Bora and Jiten Bora were seriously wounded. Meanwhile, the leopard also attacked the Forest Department team. Two jawans from the department were injured. Later, the animal was caught by the officers. AFWA also contacted a Dehradun divisional forest officer called Nitishmani Tripathi, who confirmed that no such leopard attack had happened there recently. Thus, it is clear that the viral leopard attack video is from Assam's Jorhat, not from Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
