  • FACT CHECK: Did Ukraine Sink A Russian Nuclear Submarine? A video shared on Facebook claims Ukraine sunk a Russian nuclear submarine. Verdict: False There is no evidence for this claim. Ukraine has not claimed to have destroyed a Russian nuclear submarine. Fact Check: The Russian Navy has been attacked by the Ukrainian military, with several vessels being destroyed in the past nine months, according to Forbes. The Ukrainian military is also receiving naval helicopters from the U.K., the outlet reported. The Facebook video, viewed more than 59,000 times, claims that a Russian nuclear submarine was destroyed by Ukraine. The video’s caption reads, “5 Minutes Ago, Just Arrived In The Ukrainian Sea Russian Nuclear Poseidon Submarine Destroyed By Ukr.” This claim, however, lacks evidence. If Russia had lost a nuclear submarine, credible media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Ukrainian military have also not released any statements claiming to have destroyed a Russian submarine. The Ukrainian armed forces have claimed to have destroyed 16 Russian naval vessels. This number has remained unchanged since Nov. 2. (RELATED: Does This Photo Show A Gepard Tank Firing At The Sky In Ukraine?) These are the indicative estimates of Russia’s combat losses as of Dec. 2, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/gV4VzzjR9u — The Kyiv Independent (@KyivIndependent) December 2, 2022 There have also been no videos or images released of an allegedly destroyed Russian nuclear submarine. Oryx and Warspotting, two websites that track vehicle and other material losses in Ukraine, do not list any destroyed Russian submarines either. Misinformation around the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is not new. Check Your Fact recently debunked a video claiming that Ukraine destroyed “hundreds” of Russian submarines.
