| - Following the reports about the assault on minorities in Bangladesh, a troubling video is being shared on social media, depicting three deceased children and a woman.
Those sharing have claimed that a Hindu family was assaulted by Muslims in Giripur, Bangladesh.
What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.
We came across a video on a YouTube channel called 'City News' from 7 November. It had frames similar to those of the viral video.
The title read, "Four dead bodies, including a mother and daughter, were found in a house during Chhath Kharna" (translated from Hindi to English)
We then ran a relevant keyword search which showed us reports from several news outlets like the Times of India and Dainik Jagran from November.
TOI reported that the bodies of a woman and her three kids were discovered hanging at their residence in Kilpara, Rauta in Purnea, Bihar.
The police alleged that the woman reportedly had mental health problems and at first glance, the event seems to be a suicide.
Jagran noted that the event took place when the woman's spouse was at a temple. She locked the home's door from the inside, then hanged her children from nooses before taking her own life.
Police comments: We reached out to Superintendent of Police Gyan Ranjan who confirmed to The Quint that the incident took place in Rauta in November.
He told us that the deceased woman's neighbours claimed that she was mentally unwell. Additionally, Ranjan said that the investigation was still underway.
Conclusion: The video has gone viral to falsely claim that a Hindu family was killed by Muslims in Bangladesh.
