  • FACT CHECK: Did Norway Attack Russian Naval Ships? A video shared on Facebook claims Norway attacked Russian warships with missiles. Verdict: False There is no evidence Norway attacked Russian warships. Norway has also not publicly provided anti-ship missiles to Ukraine, according to an independent analysis. Fact Check: Ukrainian Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi warned that forces would launch a new counterattack on lost territory in eastern Ukraine, according to CNBC. European Union leaders are also meeting to discuss new aid packages to the country, The New York Times reported. The Facebook video, viewed more than 11,000 times, claims Norway attacked Russian naval ships with missiles. The video’s caption reads, “Russian Navy is in Flames: Norway has rained Missiles on Russian Largest Warships!” There is no evidence Norway attacked Russian warships. If Norway had done such a thing, media outlets would have covered it, yet none have. Neither the Norwegian Ministry of Defense nor its military has issued news releases stating Russian warships had been attacked by Norwegian missiles. A spokesperson for the Norwegian Joint Headquarters confirmed to Check Your Fact in an email that the claim was “blatantly false.” Oryx, a defense analyst website, maintains a list of heavy weaponry provided to Ukraine by Norway and other countries. While Norway has provided artillery and other vehicles and weapons to Ukraine, it has not publicly given anti-ship missiles to Ukraine. The only countries that have provided anti-ship missiles to Ukraine are Denmark, the United States, Spain and the United Kingdom, according to Oryx. (RELATED: Does This Image Show Russian Helicopters Over A Ukrainian Town?) The Russian Navy’s North Fleet is conducting a command and staff exercise that involves 20 warships and support vessels, according to The Barents Observer. Norway is conducting an exercise with 20,000 troops from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) countries called Joint Viking, the outlet reported. Misinformation surrounding the on-goings of the Ukraine-Russia war has circulated on social media since its start in February 2022. Check your Fact recently debunked a claim suggesting Crimea was under place dunder Ukrainian control.
