Congress party leaders lambasted the ruling NDA government at the Centre on the issue of price rise and unemployment through its “Halla bol” rally in the capital on Sunday.
While the senior Congress leaders took their turn to attack the BJP, Rahul Gandhi gave out a price list to show how the commodity market has received the heat of inflation.
A video clip of Rahul Gandhi has gone viral where he can be heard goofing up the unit for “flour”. In the viral clip, Gandhi is saying, “Atta (flour) was Rs 22 per litre but today it is Rs 40 per litre”.
Multiple Facebook users have posted the viral clip of Rahul Gandhi and wrote a caption in Hindi, that translates to, “since when is atta is being sold in litres?”
India Today Anti Fake News War Room ( AFWA) has found that it is true that Rahul Gandhi has indeed goofed up in his speech while comparing the prices of various commodities with earlier years. Gandhi indeed used “ litres” as the unit of mass for flour, but he immediately corrected himself. The viral video is incomplete as it shows the clipped version of his speech.
AFWA probe
We found the entire speech of Rahul Gandhi delivered at Delhi’s Ramlila maidan on September 4 uploaded on the verified YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress.
In the middle of his speech, Rahul Gandhi began comparing the prices of a few essential commodities with their prices in 2014. Gandhi was listing out the prices of various commodities whose units were mostly in litres and he goofed up while calling out the unit price for flour.
From the time stamp 1.52.00 on the YouTube video, Gandhi said, “I have figures from 2014 when an LPG cylinder used to cost Rs 410, today it is Rs 1050. Petrol was Rs 70 per litre. Today it is around Rs 100 per litre. Diesel was Rs 55 per litre, today it is Rs 90 per litre. Mustard oil was Rs 90 per litre, today it is Rs 200 per litre. Milk was Rs 35 per litre, today it is Rs 60 per litre. Atta (flour) was Rs 22 per litre, today it is Rs 40 per litre”
Then immediately, in the next breath, he corrected himself and said “Oh Kgso on one hand you're being hit by unemployment, on the other hand, there is terrible inflation”.
But the viral clip does not show the portion where Rahul Gandhi rectifies his mistake.
