Claim :Viral video shows a policeman pushing commuters into a packed coach of Hyderabad metro train
Fact :The video is an old one, and shows a cop pushing people into a packed Mumbai local Vande Bharat train.
In November 2024, Hyderabad metro rail has completed 7 years. It witnessed a significant increase in ridership over the years with over 63.5 crore passengers travelling on the metro since its inauguration. The daily ridership is over 4.75 lakh passengers. All the coaches in the metro are airconditioned, with automatic doors.
To manage the increasing crowd in Hyderabad Metro, more metros will be purchased to increase the frequency of trains. The announcement was made by KVB Reddy, Managing Director, L & T Metro Rail Corporation. Reddy announced that the new trains would arrive within 18 months of placing the order. He informed about the new trains while addressing a three-day innovative promotional campaign called ‘MeTimeOnMyMetro’ at the JBS Metro Station.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also wrote a letter to PM Modi to support different important infrastructure projects in the state which also includes Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II.
Meanwhile, a video of a railway police constable pushing commuters into a crowded train, as the doors of the train were not closing, is being shared on social media. The video shows a local train looking like a city metro train doors not closing, as it was packed to the brim with passengers. This video was shared by an Instagram user with the caption on the video “Ameerpet to Raidurgam Metro belike”
Here is the archive link of the claim.
Fact Check:
The claim is False. The video does not show the Hyderabad metro train, it shows Mumbai local Vande Bharat. The video is from July 2023.
When we extracted keyframes from the video and searched them using Reverse image search, we found that the video was not a recent one.
We found a video published by a YouTube channel named Honey Rosie Vlog on July 21, 2023, with the title India Train Rush Hour / Train Pushers Shove Passenger onto India Busy Train. Though We could not get the location of this incident we could verify that the video is not recent and does not show the Hyderabad metro train.
This video was also shared by an Instagram account named Unseen Mumbai in December 2024
We also found a similar video showing a railway policeman pushing commuters on this Instagram account with text on the video – Real Mumbaikar.
Aajtak also shared the same video, stating that the video was taken in Dahisar, Mumbai.
The same video was shared by Times Now news.com, on July 22, 2023 with the caption “A Railway police officer was forced to intervene after the automatic doors on a Mumbai AC local train failed to close. A video shows the cop pushing commuters further into the train while passersby, including a dog, watch on. Video credit: Mumbai matters/Twitter”
Moneycontrol.com published an article stating that in the video posted on Instagram by Yogesh Adate and shared on Twitter by a user from the handle @Mumbaimatterz, the AC local is shown packed to the brim with passengers at suburban Dahisar. As the automated doors attempt to close, they encounter resistance due to a man who is inadvertently blocking them. Despite repeated attempts, the doors refuse to shut as the occupants of the packed compartment try to squeeze in further. The half-a-minute clip ends with a security official pushing in the obstructing man to finally get the doors shut as a stray dog looks on closely. A porter also helped.
The video provides a glimpse into the challenges faced by daily commuters in Mumbai locals. These trains are known for their sheer volume of passengers, often exceeding their carrying capacity, especially during peak hours. The situation worsens during monsoons and other events, leading to uncomfortable and sometimes dangerous situations for the commuters.
Therefore, the video showing a railway police personnel pushing commuters into the packed coach is not from Hyderabad. The video shows Mumbai's local Vande Bharat train and was shot in July 2023. The claim is false.
