Our Probe
Reverse searching keyframes from the viral video led us to a news report from Nigeria that featured a screenshot from the video. Published on May 19, 2017, the report noted that both black men seen in this video were from Nigeria.
According to the report, a brawl broke after the Nigerians were pushed out of their home by the white landlords in the United Kingdom, making it clear that the incident is unrelated to the recent riots in Dublin.
A subsequent search with relevant keywords, however, led us to a news report from the Irish Independent dated September 13, 2016. This report stated that the incident occurred in South Circular Road, Dublin. The owner allegedly paid a sum of money to the renters to reach a deal for them to leave. But when the owner arrived to vacate the house, the occupants refused to move out.
Afterwards, a confrontation escalated into a violent physical clash between the parties, prompting the owner to call the police. The situation further intensified as a wheelie bin was set ablaze, necessitating the intervention of the fire brigade. Two individuals were hospitalised due to smoke inhalation.
The police, however, made no arrests and warned both sides to keep the peace and the occupants agreed to leave the damaged house a couple of days later.
An extended version of this video can be seen below.
Therefore, it is evident that a seven-year-old incident was shared as a recent one against the backdrop of the recent riots in Dublin.
