  • FACT CHECK: No, Anheuser-Busch Does Not Own Miller Lite A video shared on Facebook shows a feminist advertisement for Miller Lite, claiming that the beer is a brand of Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), brewers of Bud Light. Verdict: False The claim is fabricated. Miller Lite is owned by Molson Coors, not AB InBev, according to its website. Fact Check: Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light has faced a boycott since its partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, and the brand “isn’t going away,” according to a former Anheuser-Busch executive, Newsweek reported. Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz has demanded a Bud Light probe due to concern that Mulvaney’s audience is mostly under the age of 21, New York Post reported. A Facebook post claims Anheuser-Busch’s parent company, AB InBev, made a feminist Miller Lite commercial following the Bud Light controversy. The commercial appears to advocate for women brewers while reprehending sexist ads common in the beer industry. “SHOCK: AB InBev not satisfied destroying its Bud Lite brand is now working hard to destroy its Miller Lite brand,” the caption reads. “Go woke, go broke.” The post is incorrect about AB InBev’s ownership of the beer. Miller Lite is not either of the brand lists on the websites for AB Inbev and Anheuser-Busch. Instead, it is listed on the Molson Coors website as one of its brands. (RELATED: Did Anheuser Busch Close Half Their U.S. Breweries?) AB InBev acquired SABMiller in October 2016, according to Forbes. As a part of the acquisition deal, The Department of Justice (DOJ) required AB Inbev to divest SABMiller ownership interest in MillerCoors, according to a press release on the DOJ’s website. The Miller Lite commercial in the Facebook video was created in March for Women’s History Month and has critics calling to boycott the brand, according to CNN. Check Your Fact has reached out to Anheuser-Busch InBev and Molson Coors for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received from either source.
