  • Fact Check: Video of man prostrating in an aeroplane aisle is NOT from India, it's from a Pak-UAE flight This incident happened on a Pakistan International Airlines flight going from Peshawar to Dubai earlier this year in September. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This incident happened on a Pakistan International Airlines flight going from Peshawar to Dubai earlier this year in September. A bizarre video making the rounds on social media shows a man prostrating in the aisle inside an aircraft as everyone in the flight looks at him. A man in what looks like a pilot’s uniform then walks up to him, helps him get up, and makes him sit in his assigned seat. The uniformed man also warns him to not get up again. A voice can be heard saying, “All the passengers are looking at him. Sometimes he calls azaan, sometimes he lies down.” In the next scene, a man wearing a sleeveless vest is seen standing, surrounded by the flight staff. Here, a person can be heard saying, “At the time of departure from Peshawar, he was fine. Right after the takeoff, he started acting like this.” After some time, the man in the vest climbs up the seats of the plane and kicks a window. Those sharing this video alluded to it being from India. One such post read, “First a Namazi wanted to perform Namaz right inside the Aisle of a flying Plane. When passengers & captain of the flight intervened, he took off his shirt & wanted to break the glass. It would have been disastrous for many passengers.” One person quoted this tweet and wrote, “Hope a serious action will be taken,” while tagging the Airport Authority of India, the Ministry of Home Affairs in India, and the Aviation Safety Network. Another person quoted it, tagging a bunch of Indian news channels and journalists, and the Twitter accounts of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh and the Vishva Hindu Parishad. The archived version of this tweet can be seen here. AFWA found that the viral video is not from India at all. It shows an incident that happened on a Pakistan International Airlines flight earlier this year in September. AFWA PROBE Using a keyword search, we found that the viral video was shared by Pakistani journalist Ghulam Abbas Shah on September 19, 2022. As per his tweet, this incident happened on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Peshawar-Dubai PK-283 flight. The Daily Mail also reported on this incident on September 19. According to the report, this incident happened on a flight that was going from Pakistan to Dubai. Flight attendants reportedly tried to calm the person seen in the video, who was punching and kicking seats, and alarming other passengers. As per the Pakistani daily Dawn, the man was arrested and later deported to Pakistan by authorities at the Dubai airport. Multiple news outlets like The Daily Times and The Tribune had also reported this incident in September. On comparing the uniform of the aircraft staff seen in the viral video with photos of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) staff posted on its Facebook page, we found many similarities. Thus, it’s clear that this video is from Pakistan, and not from any part of India as has been implied in the tweets.
