  • FACT CHECK: Viral X Image Purporting To Show Delta Jet That Flipped While Landing Is AI-Generated A viral image shared on X purports to show a Delta jet that recently flipped over while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. In addition, an AI expert denied the image’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact. Fact Check: A Delta jet traveling from Minneapolis “flipped on its roof” while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Feb. 17, according to The Associated Press. The 76 passengers and four crew members aboard the plane survived the incident, the outlet reported. The X image, which has amassed over 300,000 views as of writing, purports to show a Delta jet that recently flipped over while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. In the image, firefighters appear to extinguish a small fire resulting from the crash. The jet can be seen flipped over on the runway. “TRUMP AIR DISASTER 8: US flight 4819 of Delta Airlines crash lands UPSIDE DOWN in Toronto marking the 8th plane crash in 20 days since Trump/Musk fired FAA/ATC staff,” the post’s caption reads in part. The claim is false. Check Your Fact conducted a content detection scan using the website “Hive Moderation,” and the results indicate the image is 98.7% likely to have been AI-generated. According to the same results, the image was probably created with the program, “Stable Diffusion.” Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the image referenced in any credible news reports about the incident. Actually, the opposite is true. On Feb. 17, Lead Stories debunked the image, indicating it is AI-generated and bears a “Grok” label. Check Your Fact also reviewed the image and noticed there is a faint “Grok” label visible on the bottom right corner of the image. “Grok” is a generative AI platform that has been integrated with X. (RELATED: Instagram Image Does Not Show Authentic USAID Graphic Calling To ‘Help Eliminate Elon’) In addition, Dr. Walter Scheirer, an AI expert at the University of Notre Dame, denied the image’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact. “This image has obviously been generated using an AI algorithm. The airframe depicted looks nothing like a CRJ-900, the type of plane involved in the crash, and has a completely nonsensical appearance. There is too much landing gear where the cockpit should be and half of the plane is shown as being upside down, while the other half shown as right side up,” Scheirer said.
