The medicine gained popularity on social media due to its perceived effectiveness. A Facebook page (archived here) even shared instructions on creating Yasom at home, listing five key ingredients: copper sulfate, potassium nitrate, sulfate, rock salt and potassium alum. Atirut Asasuek, a prominent medical professional in Thailand, said in this video (archived here) on TikTok from January 14, 2024, that the substances in question are all potent acids that can cause harm to the human body. Ingesting them can result in the erosion of the mouth, esophagus and down to the stomach. While hospitals employ certain acids for medical treatments, they are administered by trained professionals. Furthermore, documents listing hazardous substances (archived here) include sulfate and copper sulfate (archived here), categorizing them as dangerous.
