India Today Fact Check
The video shows ISIS executions of men accused of homosexuality.
Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, social media has become a cesspool of disinformation in the form of old or unrelated videos and photos with inaccurate claims. One such video making the rounds shows a horrifying scene of a man being thrown off a building. Allegedly, the video shows Hamas executing its people.
A user, sharing the video on X, wrote, "This is who all you university and college students and others are supporting. Hamas executes people by throwing them off the roof of a building." An archived version of the post can be seen here.
However, India Today found that the video doesn’t pertain to either Palestine or Hamas.
Our Probe
Conducting a reverse search on the keyframes of the viral video led us to a slew of media reports from July 2015, featuring clearer stills from the gruesome footage. The Mirror reported on the video and noted that it showed the execution of men accused of homosexuality by ISIS in Fallujah, Iraq.
The report further explained that the victims were tied up and blindfolded before being taken to the edge of a building. Four men were thrown to their deaths for their perceived sexual orientations.
The Daily Mail also reported it as an ISIS execution of men accused of homosexuality in the Iraqi province of Fallujah.
More reports further substantiating the context of the video and confirming the identity of the executioners can be seen here and here.
Thus, it’s clear that this video has nothing to do with either Palestine or Hamas.
