  • Amid the ‘Praja Palana’ process being initiated in Telangana state, a social media post is making the rounds with a claim that 95,040 ration cards were cancelled in Medchal district. It also gives details mandal-wise break-up spreading apprehension among the people about the validity of their ration cards as the new Congress government has initiated the process of revamping the system in the state. See the post here. బాచుపల్లి మండలం – 2,378 ఘట్ కేసర్ – 2,273 కాప్రా – 2,263 కీసర – 3388 మేడ్చల్ – 2,306 మేడిపల్లి – 4,165 శామీర్పేట – 893 మూడుచింతలపల్లి – 3,208 రేషన్… pic.twitter.com/1dU4T788Pu — Telugu Scribe (@TeluguScribe) January 4, 2024 Translated it reads in English: “Cancellation of 95,040 ration cards in Medchal district.. People are worried about the possibility of the cancellation of ration cards in other districts too.” It was posted by Telugu Scribe and attracted criticism on X platform believing that it was true as the new Congress government in Telangana has undertaken a major process of addressing people’s grievances and also asked the beneficiaries of its welfare programmes to apply for the same under the “Praja Palana” programme. FACT CHECK When Digiteye India team took it up for fact-checking, we found that AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi had raised the issue on Twitter and tagged Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy for his reply on the claim. The concerned minister, Uttam Kumar Reddy replied stating that the claim was false. He wrote, “Asad, this news of cancellation of ration cards is totally false. Let me assure you, not one single ration card has been cancelled anywhere in the state by our Government. ” Here’s his reply: Asad, this news of cancellation of ration cards is totally false. Let me assure you, not one single ration card has been cancelled anywhere in the state by our Government. @asadowaisi https://t.co/sOyDEAfEo0 — Uttam Kumar Reddy (@UttamINC) January 4, 2024 Further, when we checked news outlets, there was no such news anywhere, and the issue never came up anywhere on TV news channels either. Such a negative move would have attracted huge criticism and news coverage as one lakh beneficiaries losing their ration cards is big news in any state. Hence, the claim is false. Claim: Telangana government cancelled 95,040 ration cards in Medchal district. Conclusion: There is no move to cancel ration cards in Telangana as claimed. Rating: Misleading —
