  • Fact Check: 2020 video of a blood-soaked woman thrashed for catching strays in Delhi shared as recent This video of a woman narrating how she and her team were thrashed in Delhi for catching strays is from 2020. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is not recent but shows a three-year-old incident in Delhi’s Rani Bagh. A disturbing video making the rounds on social media shows a blood-covered woman narrating the ordeal of how she and her team were assaulted by people when they went to catch a stray dog. This video comes in the wake of a perceptible rise in dog attacks. One person shared the clip on Twitter writing, “Humanity shamed again. This beautiful soul in the video is from a non-profit organisation called Neighbourhood Woof (@mynwoof). She takes care of stray animals in Delhi. Last night, she was brutally attacked.” Many, in replies, tagged the Delhi police and asked them to take action. An archived version of this post can be found here. India Today found that this incident is nearly three years old. Our Probe Using a keyword search, we found an extended version of this clip along with some other videos from this incident shared on a Facebook post back in July 2020. The caption stated that people from the Neighbourhood Woof NGO were brutally attacked while helping a stray dog. In the full video, the woman identified herself as Ayesha and said that she was standing outside the Azadpur police station. We also found several media reports about the incident from 2020. The Quint reported that members of the Delhi-based NGO Neighbourhood Woof, working for the welfare of street dogs, were attacked by residents of Rishi Nagar in Rani Bagh on July 3, 2020. Following the incident, the founder of the NGO, Ayesha Christina released a video narrating the incident. Per the Indian Express, the NGO, which was authorised by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, went to sterilise and vaccinate street dogs at the request of a local. During this, she and her three staff members — Vipin, Deepak and Abhishek — were reportedly attacked by a mob after an altercation with locals. Post this incident, Christina and her team shared another video detailing the incident and adding that the attackers had mistaken them for child kidnappers. The Tribune India quoting the police added that a case had been registered against the residents on the complaint of Christina. Thus, it is clear that this video is from a three-year-old incident and not recent.
