| - A video which shows a burqa-clad woman physically assaulting a man is doing rounds on social media platforms as a recent incident from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur.
What have users claimed?: Giving the incident a communal angle, an X (formerly Twitter) premium subscriber insinuated that the man seen in the viral clip belonged to the Hindu community.
Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as the incident had no communal angle to it. The woman and the man seen in the viral clip both belonged to the Muslim community.
How did we find that out?: We performed a keyword search in Hindi and found the same video published on an X handle named 'Kavish Aziz'.
In the comments section, we found a reply from the official X handle of Police Commissionerate Kanpur Nagar.
The reply loosely translated to, "The case is of 25.02.2025, cognisance was taken by the local police. The name of the person seen in the video is Adnan son of late Abdul Mabud resident of Bajaria police station."
The X handle further said, "The family members of the accused were talked to, who told that Adnan's mental condition is not normal, he is undergoing treatment. The accused is being searched. After receiving the complaint from the victim, investigation and necessary action will be taken."
We further found a video by the same handle, where the entire incident was described in detail.
As per the information provided by Kanpur Police, the accused was identified as Adnan.
The accused's family members said he is a mental patient and is undergoing treatment.
News report: Team WebQoof found a report published by News18 Hindi, which said that the incident is from Kanpur and the accused was identified as Adnan.
Conclusion: It is evident that the entire incident had no communal angle and is being shared with a false claim.
