  • Fact Check: 2017 aerial view of LA traffic shared as giant turnout for Imran Khan rally The viral aerial video of a traffic jam is not from Pakistan and it has no links to PTI supremo Imran Khan's recent rally. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The viral aerial video of the traffic jam is not from Pakistan but from Los Angeles in the United States. The aerial footage shows a massive traffic jam ahead of Thanksgiving. Following the reported assassination attempt earlier in November, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan attended his first rally on November 26. The “Pindi Jalsa” or “Haqeeqi Azadi March Jalsa”, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan witnessed frenzy from Khan’s fans and supporters as they screamed and cheered him. Following the rally, many shared a bird's eye view of a congested road and claimed that it was from the same rally. One Twitter user wrote alongside the video , "EXCLUSIVE — Live scenes in and around Murree Road, Rawalpindi, for the Haqeeqi Azaadi March." Even the former Minister for Interior of Pakistan Sheikh Rashid Ahmed shared the same video on November 27 — though without any context. The archived version of these posts can be seen here and here. AFWA's investigation found that this video is not from Rawalpindi or from Pakistan at all. It’s from Los Angeles in the United States. AFWA PROBE A reverse search of the clip’s keyframes led us to various news articles featuring the same video. On November 24, 2017, the Indian Express reported that amid Thanksgiving celebrations that year, a Los Angeles traffic video went viral. The same aerial view was used in an India Today report from November 22, 2017. The report said that ABC News tweeted aerial footage of a traffic jam on the Los Angeles 405 Freeway to show how “stuck” people could get if they planned to travel by road. Other news outlets like The Independent and the Telegraph reported the same. On November 22, 2017, ABC News shared this video on its YouTube alongside the description: “Aerial footage shows incredible bumper-to-bumper traffic in Los Angeles as Americans travel for Thanksgiving.” Thus, we conclude that the viral aerial video of a traffic jam is not from Pakistan and it has no links to Khan’s recent rally. It’s from Los Angeles in the United States. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
