  • Fact Check: NOT Ayodhya's Rampath caving in! This 2-year-old clip is from Brazil India Today found that while multiple cave-ins have recently been reported in Ayodhya's Rampath, this clip isn't from India at all. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check Though multiple cave-ins have recently been reported in Ayodhya's Rampath, this is a two-year-old video from Brazil. A video allegedly showing Ayodhya’s newly constructed Rampath caving in, causing a woman to fall into the resulting sinkhole has been widely shared on social media. People claimed on Facebook and X, “This is the condition of the road Rampath built in Ayodhya after the first rain. Its length is 13 kilometres. The total cost is Rs 844 crore i.e. about Rs 65 crore have been spent in the construction of one kilometre. The company that built the road is from Gujarat. Its name is Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited. Check all the facts. You will believe it yourself. Rest Ram naam satya hai.” The archive of one such viral post can be seen here. OUR PROBE A reverse image search led us to several Brazilian news reports from June 2022. As per O Povo, a Brazilian tabloid, a woman named Maria Rosilene fell into a crater in the Brazilian city of Cascavel. The woman was rescued by nearby people as seen in the viral video. She sustained minor injuries. The sidewalk that caved in was newly-built with a layer of cement, which collapsed when she walked over it. Brazilian news outlet UOL also shared a video report about this incident on YouTube on June 3, 2022. The Ayodhya Police also took to X to clarify that the video was not from the district, calling such claims “misleading and false news”, and adding that “legal action will be taken against the person who spread this misleading news”. This makes it clear that the video is not from Ayodhya at all. WHAT HAPPENED IN AYODHYA? After the heavy rainfall in Ayodhya last week, the Rampath reportedly suffered several cave-ins and water logging in multiple spots. Following this, six PWD and Jal Nigam officials were suspended by the Uttar Pradesh government on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s order. According to Times Now, a notice was issued to a Gujarat-based firm responsible for the civil work in the area. Business Standard reported that the firm was Ahmedabad-based Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited. Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
