A video of a car accident is going viral on social media, with claims that Indian cricketer Virat Kohli passed away in a car accident on February 19, 2025. However, Vishvas News, in its investigation, found that the viral claim is fake. This misleading post is being shared on social media to attract views, likes, and comments. Similar fake claims have gone viral in the past as well. Vishvas News investigated the claim and revealed the truth. What is going viral? Sharing the viral post on February 19, 2025, an Instagram user wrote in the caption, “Virat Kohli driving today.” The post is captioned as, “Virat Kohli is dead. He died in an accident last night.” Investigation To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google search using relevant keywords. We found a related report on the Navbharat Times website, published on February 20, 2025. According to the report, the Champions Trophy match between India and Bangladesh is to be held in Dubai today at 2.30. Virat Kohli is an important part of this team and will play the match. Continuing our investigation, we checked Virat Kohli’s official social media accounts. Our investigation revealed that he remains active on social media and has been constantly sharing posts. He shared a post on his Instagram just two days ago, confirming that the viral claim is misleading. For further verification, we contacted Abhishek Tripathi, Sports Editor at Dainik Jagran. He stated that some people often spread such fake claims on social media, to get likes. He urged users not to believe it as this claim is fake. Finally, we scanned the account of the user who shared the fake post and found that the user has over 5000 followers and shares similar fake posts. Conclusion: Vishvas News’ investigation revealed that the viral claim about Virat Kohli’s death is fake. This misleading post is being shared on social media to gain views, likes, and comments.
