The news of her death is a hoax. The Facebook page that made the claim serially publishes such hoaxes.
Celebrity death hoaxes predate the internet era, though the web is certainly the reason why they are so widespread now. And while they are a dime to a dozen and easily debunkable, these hoaxes still manage to fool people. One such hoax that took people by surprise recently was about the demise of Nysa Devgan, the daughter of actor couple Kajol and Ajay Devgn.
In a viral video featuring photos and clips of the star family, a narrator claimed that Nysa died after consuming alcohol at a party, adding that it was Ajay Devgn who broke the news on Twitter. This video was shared by a Facebook account called “Bolly Fun” on June 12, 2023.
The video garnered 386K views and 3.6K likes at the time of writing this report. Its archived version can be seen here.
India Today found out that these rumours were unfounded. Nysa is alive and kicking.
Our Probe
The death of the daughter of two actors as famous as Ajay Devgn and Kajol would have made headlines. But we could not find a single news report about this.
We checked Ajay Devgn's social media accounts to see if he had shared any news of his daughter’s death. We found no such news being shared. Rather, we saw that he had shared several posts promoting Kajol's recent courtroom drama series "The Trial: Pyar Kanoon Dhokha”.
In his last tweet, made on June 25, the actor shared a heartful wish to his late father Veeru Devgan on his birthday.
We also checked Kajol's social media accounts. There, the actor shared several posts promoting her latest web series across platforms. Nysa Devgn, on the other hand, is not active on social media at all.
It’s noteworthy that the Facebook page “Bolly Fun” that shared the viral video regularly shares similar videos containing death hoaxes, which include TV actors like Sriti Jha, Leena Jumani, Dilip Joshi, and Disha Vakani, and Bollywood actors like Jackie Shroff and Fardeen Khan.
Evidently, the news of Nysa Devgan’s death is just a hoax.
