  • FACT CHECK: Did The World Economic Forum Announce The US Must Implement A One-Child Policy? A post shared on Facebook claims the World Economic Forum (WEF) announced that the U.S. must implement a policy that says white families can only have one child. Verdict: False There is no evidence for this claim. It was published originally by NewsPunch, a website notorious for spreading misinformation. Fact Check: Gov. Gavin Newsom of California’s plan for the state budget includes delaying child care funding for low-income families, his reasoning being currently funded slots were not completely filled, The Associated Press reported. In Britain, Jeremy Hunt, finance minister, is likely allocating 4 billion British pounds to free childcare, according to Reuters. A Facebook post claims the WEF made an announcement stating that the U.S. must implement a policy prohibiting white families from having more than one child. The post shares the information via white text on an image of purple skulls. “WEF Says US Must Implement ‘One Child Policy’ For White Families,” the post reads. The claim was also posted to Twitter, where it garnered over 70 retweets. The post is fabricated, however. The claim stems from a NewsPunch article, a website known for spreading misinformation, according to FactCheck.org and Mashable. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about the WEF implementing such a policy. Check Your Fact has reached out to the WEF for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. (RELATED: Did The WEF Say It’s Time To Legalize Sex And Marriage With Animals To Promote Inclusion?) This is not the first time misinformation involving the WEF has spread online. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates withdrew from a WEF meeting in Davos, Switzerland.
