A graphic purportedly published by news organisation India Today is being circulated to claim that a pre-poll survey has found that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure a majority in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.
What did the graphic show?: It showed that the BJP will win around 48 seats, whereas the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would come down to 22 seats.
What is the truth?: The viral graphic is fake and does not show a real survey that was conducted. Additionally, India Today clarified that the graphic is being falsely attributed to them.
How did we find that out?: At first, we performed several keyword searches on Google to find out if such a survey was indeed conducted by India Today.
However, we did not come across any news report that carried the viral graphic.
Team WebQoof did not find any survey conducted by the media organisation that predicted the number of seats each political party is set to win in the 2025 Delhi assembly elections.
India Today clarifies: On going the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of the media organisation, we found a clarification posted that termed the viral graphic as "fake".
It was posted on 3 February and its caption said,"Fake polls, falsely attributed to Aaj Tak and India Today, are currently being circulated ahead of the Delhi Elections 2025. The India Today Group has not conducted any exit polls for Delhi."
Conclusion: It is evident that this graphic predicting BJP's victory in the upcoming Delhi elections is fake.
