  • Fact Check: Video Of NSG Mock Drill In Tamil Nadu Misrepresented As Masked Miscreants In Gurugram The video of a mock drill conducted by the NSG commandos at VIT Vellore campus in Tamil Nadu on March 2 is being falsely circulated with misleading claims. The video has no connection to Gurugram. By: Sharad Prakash Asthana - Published: Mar 7, 2025 at 10:58 AM - New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video is being shared on social media claiming to show four masked individuals armed with weapons openly roaming in a car in Gurugram, Haryana.. Some users are sharing this video to criticise and target the BJP-led government of Haryana. However, Vishvas News investigated the claim and found that the viral video is of the NSG mock drill at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Tamil Nadu. It has no connection with Gurugram. What is in the viral post? On March 4, Facebook user ‘Yusuf Jamal’ shared the video (archive link) with the caption, “This video is not of Taliban but of Modiji’s India. It is being said that this viral video is from Gurgaon in the BJP ruled state of Haryana. Where four gunmen are roaming around openly in a car with their faces covered with cloth…” Investigation To verify the viral claim, we closely analysed the video and noticed that the vehicle’s registration number is from Haryana. Additionally, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is also visible in the video. Based on this, a keyword search led us to a video posted on the Instagram profile of user ‘sh.raddha_2021’ on March 3, 2025. A part of the viral video can be seen in this post, which states that the video is of an NSG mock drill. On March 3, the VIT Vlogs YouTube channel also uploaded a video claiming it to be of an NSG mock drill at VIT Vellore. The video also includes a portion of the clip shared by Instagram user sh.raddha_2021. According to a report published in The Hindu on March 2, NSG commandos conducted a mock drill at the VIT campus. Around 250 security personnel participated in the exercise, including 50 NSG commandos. On July 23, 2022, a video filmed outside the VIT campus was uploaded on the ‘Sabhyajeet Singh Grewal’ YouTube channel. In this footage, a stone with VIT inscribed on it and an Airtel shop on the roadside can be seen, both of which also appear in the viral video. We contacted the office of Vellore SP Thiru N Mathivanan, where officials confirmed that it was a routine exercise and that no attack took place at VIT. Additionally, we also contacted local Tamil Nadu journalist Suresh Murthy, who confirmed that the viral video is of a mock drill at the VIT campus and is not related to Haryana. We scanned the profile of the user who shared the Tamil Nadu video with the false claim that it was from Gurugram and found that the user lives in Nagpur, and is influenced by a particular ideology. Conclusion: The video of a mock drill conducted by the NSG commandos at VIT Vellore campus in Tamil Nadu on March 2 is being falsely circulated with misleading claims. The video has no connection to Gurugram. Claim Review : Four masked gunmen are roaming freely in a car in Gurugram. - Claimed By : Facebook user ‘Yusuf Jamal’ - Fact Check : False - Know the truth!
