  • FACT CHECK: Viral Video Showing Joe Biden Being Heckled In Scranton Is From 2021 A viral video shared on X purports to show President Joe Biden being heckled during his recent visit to Scranton. This is how Joe Biden was greeted in his hometown of Scranton, PA 🤣 pic.twitter.com/XQrtWZyVII — Clown World ™ 🤡 (@ClownWorld_) April 18, 2024 Verdict: False The claim is false. The video, which was originally shared on TikTok, shows an October 2021 visit Biden made to Scranton. Fact Check: Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape slammed Biden over recent comments Biden made about his uncle purportedly being eaten by cannibals in the region, according to Politico. Marape called Biden’s remark a “slip of the tongue” and said Papua New Guinea “does not deserve to be labeled [as cannibals],” the outlet reported. “This is how Joe Biden was greeted in his hometown of Scranton, PA,” the X video, viewed over one million times, purports. In the video, explicit chants aimed at Biden can be heard. The claim is false, as the video is not recent. A watermark that appears on the top left corner of the video indicates it was originally shared on TikTok by social media user @bstrick97. Referencing the same handle, Check Your Fact was able to locate the video on the social media user’s TikTok account and found that it was posted in October 2021. @bstrick97 🇺🇸 🖕🏻 #myfinALLYmoment #joe #joebiden #scranton #fyp #fjb #trump #hometownchachacha ♬ original sound – Brent A keyword search using the terms “Joe Biden,” “Scranton,” and “October 2021” generates an article from The Morning Call, which reported that Biden was set to visit Scranton for the first time as president back in October 2021. A video from C-SPAN corroborates the claim, showing a speech Biden gave on infrastructure in Scranton at the time. (RELATED: Fact Checking Biden’s Claim About His Uncle’s Death) Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim Biden was heckled during his recent visit to Scranton. In fact, the opposite is true. PolitiFact also debunked the claim via an April 19 article. Furthermore, neither the White House nor Biden have publicly commented on the claim. Check Your Fact has contacted the White House for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
