  • FACT CHECK: Taylor Swift Statement Backing Joe Biden Was For 2020 Presidential Election, Not 2024 A post shared on X claims musician Taylor Swift has made a statement backing President Joe Biden in his reelection campaign, saying, “Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.” Drop a 💙 for the amazing Tay Tay! 🙏💙 pic.twitter.com/kJqWIxy5YI — Just saying (@kangaroos991) July 7, 2024 Verdict: False The post is inaccurate. Swift has not yet made an endorsement for the 2024 election at the time of writing. Fact Check: Swift had to ask stadium workers for help before performing a song at her show in Zürich, Switzerland on Tuesday as fans suffered from the heat, according to USA Today. Temperatures hit a high of 89 on that day and workers handed out water bottles, the outlet reported. An image shows a photo of Swift along with the text “TAYLOR SWIFT BACKS BIDEN.” It quotes her as saying, “Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.” Underneath this is a logo for the 2024 Biden campaign and then at the top center is a logo for First Coast News, a news outlet from Jacksonville, Florida. This statement is not recent, however. Swift made the statement while endorsing Biden and Vice President Harris in the 2020 election, not 2024, according to The Independent. Additionally, First Coast News originally posted the image to X on Oct. 9, 2020, where it does not show any logo for the Biden campaign at all. A June 12 Newsweek article reported that Swift had not made any statements endorsing a candidate for the 2024 election. At the time of writing, there are no credible news reports to suggest Swift has made an endorsement. The claim was also debunked by Snopes. (RELATED: Did Taylor Swift Cancel Tour In Florida To Protest State Policy?) This is not the first time misinformation involving Swift’s political views has gone viral. Check Your Fact previously debunked the claim that Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, would leave the country if former President Donald Trump was reelected.
