  • Following the recent U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump emerged as the victor (source). World leaders congratulated Trump on his victory, and among them, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations. Rumours have surfaced, claiming that in one of Modi’s X posts, he mentioned instances of alleged Hindu persecution in Bangladesh and that Trump, in a follow-up X post, assured support for Bangladeshi Hindus. Screenshots allegedly showing these posts by Modi and Trump have been widely circulated on social media. Some of these posts can be viewed here, here, here, here, here, and here. Fact-Check An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team has confirmed that neither Donald Trump nor Narendra Modi posted anything on X (formerly Twitter) about Bangladesh after the U.S. election. Instead, the posts in question originated from parody X accounts impersonating Trump and Modi. The Rumor Scanner team traced the widely circulated post, allegedly made by Modi on November 6, to an X account clearly labelled as a parody (source). This account explicitly displays ‘Parody’ next to Modi’s name and in its bio, clearly indicating it is unaffiliated with the real Narendra Modi. X’s guidelines (source) require parody accounts to use labels such as ‘parody’ or ‘fan’ in their name or bio to avoid confusion. X hosts numerous parody accounts of notable figures beyond Modi, including Elon Musk (source) and Vladimir Putin (source), with Musk being one of the most frequently impersonated individuals on the platform. Thus, it is confirmed that the referenced post has no connection to the real Narendra Modi. It was a fabricated claim propagated from a parody account. However, on his official X account, Modi did post a congratulatory message for Trump (source), in which he made no mention of Bangladesh. Similarly, the alleged post by Donald Trump claiming support for Bangladeshi Hindus was also traced back to a parody account (source). This account clearly identifies itself as a parody as well. Furthermore, Trump’s official X account (source) has not made any posts regarding Bangladesh or responded to any posts by Modi mentioning Bangladesh. Trump did post on October 31, condemning the persecution of minorities, including Hindus, in Bangladesh, but this was the last verified mention of Bangladesh on his official account (source). In summary, the claim that Trump and Modi made X posts about Bangladesh after the U.S. election is false.
