  • Old video from Pakistan shared as recent flood video from Jagityal Several water bodies are full due to flood waters and are overflowing onto the roads in the state. Incessant rains have been lashing Telangana state since the past five days and the meteorological department has warned that various districts in the state are likely to receive very heavy rains. Several water bodies are full due to flood waters and are overflowing onto the roads in the state. Due to this heavy inflow of water, there had been few incidents of vehicles being washed away in flood waters and people going missing in rural areas. One such incident that took place in Jagityal, where a reporter from a local television channel got washed away in flood water while he was on his way to cover rescue operation of nine farm labourers stranded in Kurru (Island) located in the middle of Godavari river near Bornapalli of Raikal Mandal. Few social media platforms shared a video of a car being washed away in flood water, claiming that it shows reporter Jameer's car getting washed away in flood in Jagityal. Yoyo Youtube channel has also shared the same video with the claim 'SHOCKING VIDEO: Car Washed Away in Flood Water At Jagtial | Heavy Rains Telangana | YOYO TV Channel' The claim is also viral on whatsapp. Fact check: The viral video is an old one and is NOT from Jagityal, Telangana. Firstly, when we observe the video carefully, we can hear Urdu being spoken in the video which is not the native language of Telangana. Secondly, when the screenshots taken from the video are observed carefully, we can see the Suzuki symbol on the vehicle being swept away. The extra tire on the jeep says Potohar, when checked we found that it is a Suzuki jeep model launched in Pakistan. Pak Suzuki firm was launched in 1982, as a joint venture between Government of Pakistan and Suzuki motors Japan. Suzuki Potohar was launched in 1985 in Pakistan. So the vehicle seen in the viral video is a Pakistani model and cannot be seen in India. Taking these cues, when searching for car accidents in floods in Pakistan, we found a video shared by a Pakistani youtube channel named 'Explore World with Huzaifa' published in September 2020 with title 'Car fall in flood in Pakistan'. Though we are able to find only one source, the clues that were found in the video confirm that the video is from Pakistan and NOT from Jagityal, Telangana. Hence, the claim that the viral video of jeep washing away in flood water is from Jagityal, Telangana is FALSE.
