  • FACT CHECK: Does This Video Show An ‘Uprising’ In Brazil In Response To The October 2022 Election? A video shared on Facebook allegedly shows an “uprising” in Brazil in response to the results of the October 2022 presidential election. Verdict: False The video was posted on YouTube and Twitter in September, predating the results of the election. Fact Check: Continued protests in Brazil are heavily impacting transportation across the country, as well as corn and other exports, according to Reuters. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won a tight race with Bolsonaro, marking a change for the country’s past four years of far-right politics, AP News reported. The Facebook post claims to show a video of a massive gathering of protestors holding up a large Brazilian flag. There is no sound. “Brazil uprising against the left and what the MAJORITY of Brazilians is calling a stolen election,” The caption reads. “Who’s the people behind all these elections?” The video is miscaptioned. This clip was originally posted to Twitter on Sep. 13 and attributes the footage to Bolsonaro’s campaign. “The STF Forbade Posting These Images in President Jair Bolsonaro’s Campaign,” the tweet reads. Another video of the event can be found on YouTube. In this video, Bolsonaro addresses the cheering crowd. The Facebook caption cites PBS as the source for the claim, but the article listed does not feature the video. Check Your Fact has reached out to the Brazilian government for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. (RELATED: No, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Did Not Declare Martial Law) This is not the first time misinformation about the ongoing protests in Brazil has spread. Check Your Fact previously debunked a claim that a photo of a large crowd depicted one of the protests.
