There is no subject called ‘Islamic Study’ in UPSC exam. Claim The viral post claims, “Remove Islamic study from UPSC immediately or add Vedic study too! ” A Twitter user Dr. Avni Chaudhary shared this post on August 28, 2020. This post has been retweeted 5037 times so far and has 15,782 likes. The archived version of the post can be accessed here. Many other users have shared similar posts. Investigation The UPSC exam, one of the prestigious exams in the country recruits for important job profiles like IAS. We checked the UPSC exam notification for 2019. There, we could not find a subject like Islamic Studies anywhere. While conducting the investigation, we received a tweet by IAS officer Somesh Upadhyay. In this tweet, he wrote that there is an optional subject in UPSC that has Islamic Studies. He tweeted this on August 28, 2020. For this reference and information, Vishvas News contacted Anuj Agarwal, Director of Career Plus Education Society that prepares IAS aspirants based in Delhi. He said that there is no subject called Islamic Studies is UPSC exam. “Urdu literature is a subject in this exam. The subject of Islamic studies is completely fake. However, very few people have passed UPSC from Urdu literature,” Agarwal said. In social scanning of the user, we found the user is an MBBS surgeon with over 11,000 followers on Twitter.
