This seat has been vacated by Samajwadi party MP Awadhesh Prasad after winning the Lok Sabha election from Faizabad (Ayodhya) held last year. The results of the bypolls to this constituency were declared on February 8, 2025, along with the Delhi election results. The main competition had been between Samajwadi Party's Ajit Prasad and BJP nominee Chandrabhanu Paswan.
According to the initial trends, the BJP is leading in the constituency with 1,21,860 votes. The Samajwadi Party candidate is trailing with a margin of 55,798 votes. More than 65 per cent of the 3.71 lakh voters in the Milkipur constituency voted on February 5, surpassing the turnout recorded in the 2022 assembly polls.
After the initial trends were declared, a video of the Samajwadi party MP Awadhesh Prasad crying uncontrollably in front of the press is in circulation on social media with the claim that the SP MP is crying after the defeat of Ajit Prasad, who contested the Milkipur constituency for the by-elections conducted on February 5, 2025.
The video is in circulation with an English caption that goes as “His son is losing from Milkipur seat.. The BJP candidate is leading with over 17k votes.. Ayodhya ka Raja”
Another user shared similar video with the caption: “इस बुड्ढे की ऑस्कर विनिंग एक्टिंग फेल हो गई मिल्कीपुर में 10 हजार वोटो से भाजपा आगे चल रही मिल्कीपुर में प्रचंड मतों से भगवा लहरा ने जा रहा जय श्री राम.”
When translated, it claims “This old man's Oscar-winning acting failed. BJP is leading by 10,000 votes in Milkipur. Saffron is flying high with huge votes in Milkipur. Jai Shri Ram”

Fact check:
The claim is False. The video is not relating to after the Samajwadi party lost the Milkipur seat in the by-election.
When we extracted keyframes from the video and searched them using Google reverse image search, we found some news articles sharing screenshots from the video.
According to an article published in Lokmattimes.com, Awadhesh Prasad, MP for Ayodhya (Faizabad), was seen weeping in front of the reporters after the body of a 22-year-old Dalit woman was found in a canal near her village in Uttar Pradesh. The woman had been missing and her family has alleged that she was murdered.
According to Hindustan Times, the alleged gangrape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in Ayodhya district has drawn sharp reactions from leaders of several political parties. Samajwadi party leader, Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad met the family of the deceased. During a press conference on February 2, 2025, he said he would resign if he could not get justice for the victim’s family. Speaking on the murder of the Dalit woman, the MP broke down in front of mediapersons and said, “I failed to save her. Let me go to Delhi and Lok Sabha. I will raise this matter before Prime Minister Modi. If we don’t get justice, I will resign.”
