  • Fact Check: Joe Biden DID NOT touch his granddaughter in an inappropriate manner, edited video goes viral An edited video of US President Joe Biden "touching" his granddaughter in an "inappropriate manner" went viral on social media. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video was edited in a way to give it a false spin. The original video is from October 2022 when Biden put an "I Voted" sticker on his granddaughter Natalie after they voted for the midterm election. A video of United States President Joe Biden is making rounds of social media with some surprising and questionable remarks. The clip shows Biden kissing a young woman dressed in a black outfit while touching her inappropriately. People sharing this video claimed that the woman seen with Joe Biden is none other than his granddaughter. The post carried captions alleging Biden of touching his granddaughter inappropriately. With similar captions alleging Biden of such wrongdoing, many shared this video on Facebook and Twitter. An archived version of the same can be seen here. AFWA's investigation revealed that the viral video was cropped and distorted to give it a false spin. AFWA Probe Upon reverse searching keyframes from the viral video, we came across a report published in The Hindu on October 30, 2022. While featuring a similar image to the keyframe, the caption noted that Biden had put an "I Voted" sticker on his granddaughter Natalie Biden after they both voted for the US midterm election. Although the election was set to take place in November last year, President Joe Biden opted for an early vote with Natalie, a first-time voter. Both cast their ballots in a polling station in Wilmington, Delaware. The midterm election results, however, proved to be a disappointment for the Democrats and the Biden camp as Republicans took control of the House of Representatives. Democrats had retained the Senate. With subsequent searches with some keywords, we found the original video uploaded to the YouTube channel of AP on October 29 last year. Around the 16-second timestamp of this video, we could see Natalie putting a sticker on Biden's chest and patting it down with her hands. Following this, Biden turns towards Natalie with a sticker in his hand and asks, "which side do you want?" Natalie responds by saying, "this side." Then, Biden puts the sticker and kisses her granddaughter. After seeing the full video, it becomes clear that the viral one was clipped and was represented in a way to spread misinformation. The "I Voted" sticker is not a new trend in the United States. Per a Bloomberg story, these stickers emerged between the 1950-the 80s. Usually designed with patriotic symbols, e.g. the national flag, it showcases civic spirits during election days.
