  • FACT CHECK: Did The U.S. JAG Corps Arrest Former Twitter Lawyer James Baker? A post shared on Facebook purports the U.S. Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps arrested former Twitter lawyer and FBI General Counsel James Baker on multiple charges, including treason. Verdict: False The claim stems from a satirical website. There is no evidence supporting the purported claim. Fact Check: Twitter CEO Elon Musk fired Baker following the release of internal communications that appear to show his involvement in the alleged censoring of a 2020 New York Post story about Hunter Biden, Fox Business reported. Baker was also involved in the FBI’s investigation into former President Donald Trump and his supposed collusion with Russia, according to the New York Post. The Facebook post purports the U.S. JAG Corps arrested Baker, a former Twitter lawyer and FBI General Counsel, on multiple charges, including treason. The post further claims investigators had eyes on Baker and arrested him on Wednesday morning as he was leaving the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting Baker was arrested by the U.S. JAG Corps on multiple charges, including treason, or that he committed the purported crimes. Likewise, the claim neither appears on the U.S. JAG Corps’ website nor its verified social media pages. Musk also has not publicly commented on the claim. A keyword search reveals the claim stems from a Dec. 8 article published by the website “Real Raw News.” A disclaimer included on the site’s “About Us” page indicates it contains “humor, parody, and satire.” “This is not true,” U.S. Navy JAG spokesperson Devin Arneson said of the claim in an email to Check Your Fact. (RELATED: Was Secretary Of Education Miguel Cardona Arrested By The U.S. Military?) This is not the first time a satirical claim has circulated online. Check Your Fact previously debunked a social media post purporting the U.S. military is upset with former President Donald Trump over recent comments he made about nullifying the Constitution.
