  • Fact Check: This 'lyrical campaign' for BJP in Mumbai local ahead of Lok Sabha polls is from 2019 Strap: Viral video of people supposedly appealing to re-elect Modi in Lok Sabha elections by singing a song is from 2019. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video of commuters singing to elect PM Modi in Lok Sabha elections is not recent but from 2019. “BJP will return to power in 2024 by winning over 300 Lok Sabha seats,” asserted Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently while addressing a rally in Assam. Meanwhile, a video of a jampacked train with commuters, singing in perfect harmony, about voting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha election is going viral. Those sharing it claimed that the people of Mumbai are urging everyone to vote for the Bhartiya Janata Party in the general elections in 2024. Archives of such posts can be found here and here. India Today, in its investigation, found that the viral video of people singing praises for PM Modi is not recent but from 2019. Our Probe Reverse searching keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook post from April 6, 2019, containing an extended version of the video in question. The caption stated that this scene unfolded on a Mumbai local train. Many others had shared this video at the time, including the Facebook page of the BJP Andhra Pradesh. Per a tweet by Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal, the video showed Rajasthani migrants campaigning for BJP in a Mumbai local train. Further searches led us to a Facebook post by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from April 11, 2019. Here the viral video was shared with the caption, “I am deeply moved by such deep love and trust. I promise to return this by working even harder to take our country to greater heights.” Media outlets like TV9 Gujarati and ABP Live also shared the video of commuters appealing to vote for Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Using a keyword search, we found a Rajasthan-based YouTube channel named “MSD Music and Video”. The song from the viral video can be heard in one of the videos — this time in a woman’s voice — shared by this channel on January 2, 2019. Per the description, the song was sung by Madhuri Vaishnav Sharma and written by Raju Sharma Balotra. We checked Madhuri’s Facebook account and found that she is the musical artist who could be seen in the video above. She shared a video of herself performing the viral song in 2019 and also shared more such songs in support of the BJP later. The same year, this song was performed by several different people on different occasions ahead of elections. Thus, it is more than clear that a 2019 video is being wrongly linked to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. (Written by Sanjana Saxena) ALSO WATCH | Fact Check Video: UFO fleet in the night sky?
