  • FACT CHECK: Did Bill Gates Withdraw From The World Economic Forum Summit? A post shared on Facebook purports Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates, withdrew from the World Economic Forum (WEF) Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Verdict: False The post’s caption is inaccurate. There is no evidence that Gates withdrew at the last minute. Fact Check: Gates has recently launched a company focused on nuclear power innovation called TerraPower, its first plant is expected to be online in 2030 in Wyoming, CNBC News reported. Gates travelled to Qatar during the World Cup to further his efforts in health innovations, including access to vaccines, by collaborating with soccer players, Al Jazeera reported. A post claims to show that Gates was slated to attend the WEF meeting in Davos until the last minute before unexpectedly withdrawing from the conference. The post does not give a reason for the alleged withdrawal. “EXCLUSIVE: Bill Gates has also pulled out of the WEF23 meeting in Davos,” the post reads. “Wonder why?” There is no credible news report that suggests Gates withdrew from the convention. A spokesperson from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation told the Associated Press that “Bill was never confirmed to attend the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2023.” In the lead up to the event, there were no announcements on any of Gates’s verified social media accounts suggesting he would be attending the conference.
