Amid rumours about cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma's divorce, a set of two images have gone viral on social media showing the latter with cricketer Shreyas Iyer in a pool.
Those sharing have claimed that the photos show Verma with Iyer following her divorce.
(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)
Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as the images are edited.
Neither of the parties or any legitimate website or news source have posted such a photo.
What we found: We ran a Google and Yandex reverse image search on the photo and did not find it on any legitimate website or news source.
We also went through the social media handles of Verma and Iyer but did not find the image.
Team WebQoof, then, compared the girl in the image and Verma and found major differences between the two.
The reverse image search results led us to certain posts which came with a disclaimer that the image was created using artificial intelligence. You can view them here.
We, then, ran the image on AI-detection websites such as Hive Moderation and TrueMedia.
Hive Moderation: The tool gave a 99.7% score that the image "likely contained AI-generated or deepfake content."
TrueMedia: The tool was "uncertain" about the image being created using AI.
It found 98% evidence of Universal Fake Detector Analysis, which examines images to identify whether they are produced by different autoregressive or other commonly utilised forms of generative models.
Additionally, Chahal and Verma have not announced their divorce as of 9 January. Speculations started when the cricketer deleted their photos from his Instagram and the two reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Conclusion: Edited images of Verma and Iyer are circulating on the internet amid divorce rumours between the former and Chahal.
