The spiritual festival of India, Maha Kumbh Mela, has drawn more than 10 crore devotees and visitors as of January 23, 2025. A total of more than 45 crore devotees are expected to take a dip in the holy waters of Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj.
The Uttar Pradesh government is implementing strict measures to ensure the safety and comfort of the devotees. To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, authorities have established a temporary city with 1,50,000 tents, sanitation facilities, and better transportation services. More than 40,000 police officers have been deployed in the area with AI-powered surveillance systems.
The UP government's tourism department conducted a spectacular drone show on January 24 evening. This drone show is scheduled for 3 days from January 24 to 26, 2025. During the show, the Sanatan tradition's heritage is showcased through modern technology. Images of a sadhu blowing the conch and a sanyasi immersed in the holy waters of the Sangam added depth and spiritual significance to the display. The highlight of the show was the majestic Indian tricolor unfurling over the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan, evoking a sense of patriotism and national pride among the spectators.
Amidst this, a video showing thousands of drones displaying spectacular images in the sky is in circulation with the claim that it is the drone show at Prayagraj, during the Maha Kumbh Mela. In the video, we can see people arranging the drones in wide open space and the images displayed by the drone. We can see images of reindeer, Santa Claus, etc. displayed during this drone show.

Fact Check:
The claim is False. The video is from Texas, USA, at an event organised on November 26, 2024.
When we performed a Google reverse image search using the extracted keyframes from the video, we found a Facebook post showing the same video, with the title – ‘5000 drones, technology is awesome’, and also we could see huge images of Santa and his reindeer displayed by the drones.
Taking a cue from this, when we searched using the keywords ‘5000 drones + Santa Claus’, we found several articles from December 2024.
A YouTube video published by a channel named Sky Elements Drone Shows was published on December 6, 2024, with the title ‘5000 drone Santa’
Sharing the video published by the company Sky Elements Drone, an article published by the Times of India states that the video features 5000 drones lighting up the sky in the shape of a giant Santa Claus. The video showcases the meticulous work of the technicians as they set up the drones outdoors in Dallas, displaying incredible images of Santa riding his sleigh illuminating against the night sky.
According to an article published on ndtv.com, a US-based drone company posted a video of one of the largest drone shows by flying 5000 UAVs over a field in Mansfield, Texas ahead of Christmas. The company, Skyelements, broke their own record of flying 2,500 drones in the northern hemisphere and earned their 11th Guinness world record.
Hindustan Times also shared an article stating that ‘With precision and coordination, the drones took to the air and quickly formed giant, glowing structures that dazzled the audience. The moment Santa appeared, waving from his sleigh filled with presents, the crowd erupted in applause.’
Hence, the viral video of the drone show was not taken during the Maha Kumbh mela, the video is from Texas, USA organized on November 26, 2024. The claim is False.
