  • A video has gone viral on social media of two women mixing a liquid in a glass of juice, with a communal claim suggesting that a Muslim domestic help added urine to her Hindu employer's juice. The claim also stated that the employer was from the Samajwadi Party (SP). Users wrote, "Housemaid Farida Khatoon caught on camera when she was mixing her urine in juice before serving Hindu house owner. The house owner is being called a Samajwadi Party Leader. Trust me, you are just Kafir for them so choose your maid, servant, worker & assistant carefully." (sic.) What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them. We came across an article on a website called, "Linda ikejis blog." It was posted on 26 April 2016. The article noted that the video was from Kuwait and showed a domestic help urinating in her employer's juice glass. We, then, ran a relevant keyword search in Arabic. We came across an article on the news outlet Akhbaar24 from 26 April 2016. The article noted that the video was recorded by a home security camera put up by the employer and aired on a Kuwaiti talk show showing the domestic help adding urine into a cup of juice made by her for the employer. The report also stated that another domestic help assisted her in the kitchen, and after she departed, the accused maid urinated in a cup and mixed it into the juice. Gulf Daily News noted that the family allegedly grew wary of a constant unpleasant odour in their food and set up a hidden camera in the kitchen. This incident was covered by several Indian news outlets. You can read some of the reports here and here. Conclusion: A false communal claim has gone viral on social media stating that a Muslim domestic help urinated in a glass of juice at her Hindu employer who was a part of the SP.
