India Today Fact Check
This video is from an incident that took place in Oman in July 2022.
After Cyclone Biparjoy weakened into a depression, the Gujarat government shifted its focus towards the restoration of damaged infrastructure, including roads, power lines, mobile towers, and houses. Thousands of electricity poles were uprooted by the cyclone, leaving over 4,600 villages without electricity. High-speed winds also caused tree uprooting, road blockages, and property damage in various areas of Gujarat.
Now, a video showing a group of people being swept away in violent waves is being circulated on social media. Those sharing it claimed the video depicted the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy. The archived version of such posts can be seen here and here.
India Today found that the video was actually from a 2022 incident in Oman and had no connection to Cyclone Biparjoy, which made landfall in coastal areas of Gujarat on June 15.

According to a report by Al Arabiya published on the same day, on July 10, 2022, a family of eight Asian expatriates fell into the sea after crossing the fence at the Al Mughsail beach. While three of them were immediately rescued, two members of the family, including a child, died.
According to a report by India Today, the two individuals who tragically died were identified as 42-year-old Shashikant Mahamane and his son Shreyas. They were members of a family from the Jat village in Maharashtra's Sangli district. The family used to live in Dubai and had gone to Oman to celebrate Eid.
