Quick Take
An Instagram post claims that cupping, a Chinese treatment for muscle pain, can remove vaccines from the body after it is being administered. We fact-checked and found that the claim is false.
The Claim
“Cupping The Vax After 30 Mins Of Injection,” reads the caption of a video that shows a man making small cuts on the arms of an alleged vaccine recipient and then using a suction cup to remove blood. The video can be seen here.
Fact Check
What is cupping?
Cupping is an alternative medicinal therapy where special cups are placed on the skin to create suction. It is used as a deep tissue massage that helps relieve pain.
Research has shown that cupping can help to eliminate toxins trapped in the tissues. Studies have further established the health benefits of cupping for multiple other health problems.
How are vaccine contents administered?
As per ABC science, COVID-19 vaccines are injected into the upper arm muscle because muscles contain blood supply that helps disperse the vaccine. Once administered the blood carry the vaccine content across the body.
Can cupping remove vaccine contents from the body?
No. There is no evidence for the same.
While the process of wet cupping is known to break open tiny blood vessels under the skin, there is no proof that it can drain out any specific content from the blood in controlled manner. We found no research that supports any such claim about cupping.
A few false social media posts are claiming that if you are already vaccinated, you can detoxify your body using certain recipes.
