Quick Take
A media website falsely claims the Dutch euthanize people without their consent. Our fact-check confirms the claim is Mostly False.
The Claim
The People’s Voice article from June 29, 2023, falsely alleges that the doctors in the Netherlands are euthanizing citizens with autism and other minor disabilities, without fear of prosecution even if the patient no longer wishes to die. The headline states, “Netherlands Begins Euthanizing Disabled People To ‘Save the Planet’”.

Fact Check
What is euthanasia?
Euthanasia is a highly controversial and debated topic worldwide. It is the intentional act of ending life to relieve suffering. Its execution highly depends on the individual’s consent and circumstances. Different countries and regions have varying laws and regulations regarding euthanasia. Some jurisdictions allow euthanasia under strict conditions, while others prohibit it entirely.
Are the Dutch euthanizing people without their consent?
No. We found no evidence that confirms the Dutch euthanizing people without their consent. A website named ThePeoplesVoice.tv published the claimed article. This website is known for regularly publishing stories with no scientific evidence. We also have found evidence that shows The People’s Voice, which used to be called Newspunch, is a well-known source of false information and has been around for a long time. They often spread stories that are not true. THIP MEDIA has previously debunked another claim by The People’s Voice stating that the WEF impose new mandates on future human offspring. In another instance, we debunked a claim that Klaus Schwab’s daughter said there would be permanent climate lockdowns.
The claimed article has cited a recent study that analyzed instances of euthanasia in people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorders in the Netherlands. According to the study, several individuals with intellectual disabilities, including autism, made voluntary decisions to end their lives within the framework of Dutch law. But the article does not confirm whether these cases of euthanasia had no patient’s consent. Moreover, no evidence confirms that doctors in the Netherlands were compelled to carry out euthanasia.
Is euthanasia legal in Netherlands?
Not exactly. Our research shows that euthanasia in the Netherlands is legal under certain conditions. But they strictly regulates the practice. It requires the explicit and voluntary request of the person who wishes to undergo euthanasia. The Netherlands had specific laws and regulations in place regarding euthanasia. Under these laws, physicians can perform euthanasia under specific criteria. These criteria include the patient’s unbearable suffering and without any prospect of improvement. Besides this, the patient’s voluntary request for euthanasia and a second independent physician confirming that the set criteria have been met. Euthanasia without a person’s consent is illegal in the Netherlands. Such an action can be a severe violation of the law.
Even a spokesperson for the Dutch government’s Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, informed USA Today that the claim is a misinformation.
